Initiation of Change Management Program

A change management programme has been initiated to review the operating model of the ODU, implement changes, and enable the realisation of the 2020 ODU Strategy.
A 20/20 Vision - Refining the ODU Operating Model

The OD Committee (ODC) has initiated a change management project in order to implement the 2020 Strategy for the Union, which was adopted in February of this year.

Purpose:

Review and propose changes to how the OD Union is managed and enable its objectives to be met. To define and set in place a structure, an operating model and a culture within the ODU community that will enable the implementation of the strategy. It should also implement a system that will allow sustainable incremental improvements within the ODU and into its future. The results should lead to an active modern global network, as well as inform the key details of a new constitution.

Start Date: 17 August 2020
Duration: 3 months
Program Manager: Brendan Jenman |  [email protected] | Tel: 0732731897

The OD committee has realised the need for an operational model review and a refresh of the approach to how the Union is managed. After creating sub-committees to implement the components of the strategy, it became clear that this piece of work falls outside of the reasonable expectation of a group of volunteers. The work needs experience, a high level of skill and dedication of professional time. Given the proactive work that Brendan Jenman had been doing, his suggestions being made and based on his union knowledge, relevant professional experience and willingness to take on the role, it was decided to engage with him formally.

Approach:

The intellectual capital that exists to date (like the strategy, communication methods, existing constitution, policies and existing operating model) will be used to inform, and then refine the elements of the ODU. The initial effort will focus on consolidation tasks, ideas and risks, some quick enabling wins and on the creation of guiding principles and brand; utilising the purpose and objectives of the ODU.

Summary of the scope of works for review and change:

Communication:        Website development, Social Media, Newsletter Strategy and Tools.

Governance:             Create Guiding Principles, Create Constitution Components

Specific Initiatives:    Mentorship, Professional Networking, and Interest Groups

Operating Model:

Roles and responsibilities: Committees, Staff, Patron, President, VPs, Branches, Members and all OD Community Stakeholders.
Review and Define: Financial Model, Branch Structures, Committee requirements, Staff Requirements

Enabling Tools:

Creation of Information and Meeting Management tools, Database Management Processes, Live Calendars, Branch and Group Management tools and an IT Requirements Review.

In conclusion, this program should lead to increased engagement from ODs across the world, and drive co-operation and collaboration within the ODU Community and the school.
