The evening will be hosted by Carina Bruwer and will start with a snippet from Arafat Gatabazi. At the young age of 17 he fled from the war-torn DRC and travelled by foot to seek refuge in South Africa. He was never going to sit still, and he started to conquer his own fears by taking on various long-distance swimming challenges including the Robben Island swim. In 2014 he was named Swimmer of the Year by the Cape Long Distance Swimming Association. To make a difference and to give back to the community he started a swimming academy for young children from underprivileged backgrounds, teaching them how to swim.

The main speaker for the evening is South African ultra-endurance athlete Cameron Bellamy. He has amassed 10 Guinness World Records. His most recent accomplishment in December 2019, was being a member of the Impossible Row, the first human powered crossing from South America to Antarctica, across the notorious Drake Passage, by row boat. In September 2019, he completed the longest channel swim in history when he swam 151km continuously from Barbados to St Lucia in over 56 hours. In 2018, Cameron became the first person to complete a highly complex circumnavigation of the island Barbados, swimming a grueling 96km around the jagged coastline in 41 hours. Earlier that same year he became the 11th person and 1st South African to complete the ‘Oceans 7’, the equivalent of the ‘7 Summits’ of mountaineering. He completes all his endurance feats for the Ubunye Challenge, a charity he founded in 2011 which focuses on funding infrastructure for early childhood development projects in the Eastern Cape and educational projects in Northern Zimbabwe. Discover when his athletic passion began, share in his more recent adventures and find out what motivates him to keep breaking the impossible.
