Ian Wilson (1954G) passed away on Monday 9th September 2019

Ian Wilson (1954G) | 1936 - 2019

When Brian Porter (a lifelong friend and also an OD) started his motor business, Ian joined him. Subsequently in 1978, he started his own motor dealership which he ran successfully until his retirement only 5 years ago.

Ian was a brave adventurer in a modern changing world, coming up with new ideas and happy to see them through even if the odds seemed against him. He was competitive in business and sport, sometimes fearless, evident during his 22 years of piloting his powerboats, but always fair and the first to admit fault on his part, often difficult for some with such confidence and conviction.

He saw the 15-year fight with cancer as a challenge, and rather than giving up, tried every trick in his book to beat it. It is safe to say it was a “tie” which in my mind is a “win”. Ian loved his frequent OD functions, especially of late, thanks to those friends who after many years were, and are so special. Thank you Ba, his wife (married 60 years), for being at his side his whole life, and cared for him through the illness until he died on September 9th.

Name: Ian Ralph Wilson
