Cameron Bellamy (2000B) completes world record swim for 'Ubunye'

Cameron Bellamy (2000B) completed a 151.7km on Sunday from Barbados to St Lucia in the Caribbean, setting a record for the longest channel swim.

Cameron Bellamy (2000B) swam 151.7km from Barbados to St Lucia in the Caribbean, setting a record for the longest channel swim.

The mammoth swim took him 56 hours and 36 minutes, beating Chole McCardel’s swim of 124.4km five years ago, also set in the Caribbean.

Cameron is an endurance athlete who has previously completed a swim across the English-channel and has also rowed across the Indian ocean.

He partakes in these ludicrous activities with the goal of helping others. Cameron raises funds for his self-founded charity Ubunye, which means Unity when translated from Xhosa. Cameron’s aims to support and enable the underprivileged children of South Africa, Zimbabwe and the Caribbean.

The idea is to give as many children as possible access to a fraction of what he received when growing up, in terms of an education.
Cameron is currently recovering and will give his own account of this achievement in the next few days, according to his support team on Facebook.
