Deepest Sympathy

Ernle Day (1957G) passes away after a long battle with cancer.

Pam Day, Ernle Walter Day's second wife of 29 years, contacted us to let us know that he passed away on 25 June after a long battle with cancer. He had been in remission for over ten years before he became ill again three years ago.

Ernle Day was at Bishops from 1954 to 1957.  He was a Cadet in the Cadet Detachment; played some matches for the First XV in 1957.  He was a good sportsman and earned his boxing colours and half rugby colours.  He stayed friends with  his classmate Dennis Briggs (1957G)  who was also in Gray House, until Dennis' death a few years ago.

After school he worked as an Industrial Chemist at UCT.

Ernle was 82 years old when passed away in Vincent Pallotti Hospital in Pinelands.  There was a small but intimate memorial service for him in Thornton where he was living.

Pam described him as a private man who will be missed.
