8 MARCH 2019

Dear Peter

On Wednesday, 27 February 2019, we held our annual general meeting. Apparently, it was one of the longest meetings on record. Nicky Bicket presented some interesting statistics concerning the level of engagement with the Union and some of the Branches. The meeting discussed proposals concerning associate membership. These topics will be the subject of ongoing consultation with members of the Union. The minutes will be sent out and posted on the website shortly.

On Thursday, 28 February 2019, our annual dinner was hosted by Mr Brian Robertson at Kelvin Grove. Our after-dinner guest speaker, Prof Jonathan Jansen, inspired ODs with a message of hope, determination and persistence. He was given a standing ovation, and rightly so.

The following day, the School awarded the Bishop Robert Gray medal to two distinguished ODs, Dr Robert Frater and Mr Raymond Ackerman, our Patron. All of the boys sat in rapt attention, listening to the remarkable stories of each of the honourees, both of whom received standing ovations.

The last week has seen a dozen reunions hosted at the Mitre, the Woodlands, and the Heatlie. The reports for these reunions will be available on the website in due course.

Last night we launched the third edition of The Old Diocesan magazine. Mr Ackerman delivered an inspiring talk, taking a packed Mitre on a journey of obstacles overcome, challenges met, and successes shared. The magazine is a testament to the health and vitality of our members, of which we should be proud.

It has been a busy time indeed. We hope you enjoy this Mitre Message as much as we have had participating in the events it reports on.

Lastly, we would like to wish our Patron, Mr Raymond Ackerman a very happy birthday this coming Sunday (10th March).

Have an amazing weekend.

Kind regards,

Adam, WP and Nicole

Quote for the Week

This week's quote is taken from the Third Edition of The Old Diocesan:

" ...So the real lesson, perhaps, is to be able to learn from both the positive and the negative experiences at school - and in life. It was a privilege to attend Bishops, and I'm privileged to be able to give back to it now..."

Mr Raymond Ackerman (1948S)
