Clifford Adams, late father of Russell (1987G)  found Cliffie-007 for sale in an open field on the Cape Flats in the early 2000’s. It was love at first sight. Clifford used the car on a daily basis until passing away in September 2016. The car became an icon in the local Heathfield and Diep River community and surrounds.

On his dad’s passing, Russell promised his mom that he would restore the car. The restoration took 3 years to complete. The engine was reconditioned in November 2020.

As much as Russell would have liked to keep the car in the family, he felt that the Clifford Cliffie-007 legacy is best-supported by generating funds from auctioning the car and splitting the proceeds between the two community initiatives he supports.

These are The Invest In Our Future Fund (IIOFF) and The Young Cavaliers Foundation, established by Russell in honour of his father and the late cricket administrator Frank Brache, which seeks to enable students from disadvantaged backgrounds to receive a quality education.

The Young Cavaliers Foundation borrows its name from a Cape Flats cricket team that promoted nonracialism in the 80s, playing against white schools during the apartheid era and coached by Clifford.  YCF is a joint venture between Russell and another Bishops old boy, Ross Wilson (1992G) who was mentored by Russell when he was a new boy. Ross runs a business called Urbantonic which is based in Diep River and is near to the Heathfield Primary School (The main beneficiary of the YCF initiative).  It is for this reason that the two teamed up to form the YCF for the betterment of the community in which Russell grew up and Ross now works within and supports.

For those of you who also want to give back to the community, the upcoming Bishops PA Golf Day and Classic Car Auction at Steenberg on 11 November provides the perfect opportunity to do so.  It is at this event that Cliffie-007 is being auctioned.  The auction starts at 18:00 after the Golf Day.  So be sure to get there on time if you want to be part of the action and take this classic car home with you.

For those who can't make it, reserved bids will be accepted in advance of the actual auction date.

For more details you can also go to our event page.
