The sad passing of Waine Lawton (F, 1965).

Waine Dendy Lawton 1946 - 2025

We are sad to announce the passing of Waine Lawton (F, 1965).  He died yesterday (29 September) after a short illness.

Waine was at Bishops from 1960-1965, and became a boarder in Founders in hs matric year.  He was a school prefect, excelling at just about every sport Bishops had to offer. He was one of the fastest and most feared schoolboy bowlers of his day; while at College, he played for the First XI from 1962-1965 (four years!).  He played for the First XV rugby for two years, captaining it in his matric year. He was the Vice-Captain of the College Athletics Team and was awarded the Jameson Prize for Athletics in his Matric year. He was awarded full colours for Athletics, Boxing, Rugby & Cricket.

He and Liz moved to the UK where they were involved in prep school teaching for their entire working careers. They were loyal and active supporters of the UK Branch of the ODU having attended many functions and events over the past eleven years.

Waine's funeral will be held at 12.30pm on Friday 31st October at St Mary's Church, Church Lane, Twyford, Winchester SO21 1NS. If you do come, note that there is ample parking at the church. If you come by train, the closest station is Shawford (one stop from Winchester) and then a very short taxi ride from there. Or you could take a taxi from Winchester Station.

Liz has asked that we all wear bright colours!

A full obituary to follow.

We send our heartfelt condolences to Liz and the family at this sad time.

RIP, Waine

Kindest regards

Nicky Bicket

Liz lives at Hollyhill, Bournefields, Twyord, Winchester, SO21 1NY.
