ODs from the Class of 1984 descended upon their alma mater for a weekend filled with nostalgia and camaraderie as they marked four decades since their graduation. The weekend-long reunion, held from the 6th to the 9th of March, saw former classmates coming together from various corners of the globe to reconnect, share stories, and celebrate.

The festivities kicked off on Wednesday, the 6th of March, with the Old Diocesan Union (ODU) Annual General Meeting held at The Woodlands Pavillion for any ODs who wanted to attend.

Thursday evening saw the grand gathering of 32 classmates at Kelvin Grove for the fabulous and entertaining Annual OD Dinner. Amidst the clinking of glasses and hearty laughter, attendees enjoyed a sumptuous three-course meal, accompanied by reminiscences of their time at Bishops. Renowned comedian Nick Rabinowitz, favourite rugby coach, John Dobson (1985K), and the hilarious Glen Biderman-pam (2007F) regaled the audience with anecdotes, adding non-stop humor to the evening's proceedings. Beloved teachers, Betty Solomon and Brian de Kock (1952O) were also at the dinner and the class enjoyed spending time with them.

The festivities continued into Friday, offering a range of activities catering to varied interests. Eight Golf enthusiasts took to the greens at Clovelly for an 18-hole game, organised by Derek Lloyd (1884G), Garth Solomon (1884K), and Jon Ackerman (1884S).

Meanwhile, fourteen of the others opted for a more leisurely afternoon of Newbie Bowls at the Mowbray Bowling Club, expertly arranged by Jeremy de Kock (1884W).

Thirteen cricket enthusiasts joined a spirited Founders Day Social Cricket Match at Bishops, orchestrated by Robin Thomson (1884O).  This provided the perfect opportunity to showcase their sporting prowess and enjoy seeing all the other sportsmen who were part of the Founders Day Sports events happening across the College Campus.

As the sun began to set on Friday evening, the celebration shifted gears to The Club House, nestled in the heart of Constantia. Amidst a casual ambiance, attendees were treated to an array of delectable platters and pizzas. The presence of spouses and partners added to the fun atmosphere, as Paul Burton (1884K) and Kevin Lennett (1884O) ensured that every guest felt welcome and included.

Saturday morning dawned with a sense of adventure as a group of their companions embarked on a 2-hour scenic Mountain Walk at Constantia Neck Park. Led by Rob Nagel (1884F), the leisurely stroll provided the perfect opportunity to soak in the natural beauty of the surroundings and catch up with old friends. The walk culminated in a relaxed brunch at La ParadaHugh Fynn joined them for the hike and lunch.

As the weekend drew to a close, Sunday provided a moment of quiet reflection, allowing attendees to cherish the memories forged over the past few days and look forward to the next reunion.

The Class of 1984's 40-year Matric Reunion served as a testament to the enduring bonds forged at Bishops and reaffirmed the spirit of camaraderie and friendship that continues to exist amongst these classmates.
