This year’s OD Round the World Braai Day was a great success and, by all accounts, a lot of fun.

The idea is a simple one: wherever you are in the world, light a fire, take a photograph and share it with the OD community. And if a braai isn’t possible, find another way to celebrate the heritage of the country where you find yourself.

This year, we received around 50 messages and photographs from ODs across the globe. We heard from Australia, Georgia (the country), Tanzania and Mozambique; Gauteng, KZN and Cape Town; Oxfordshire and elsewhere in the UK; and as far afield as Florida, New Jersey, Minnesota and Texas.

It was a wonderful reminder that, wherever life takes us, we remain connected by a shared heritage and a common bond. The photographs and messages offered a glimpse into the lives of ODs around the world and provided a great opportunity to reconnect and share a story.

To see the photographs, visit our Facebook or Instagram pages.

A big word of thanks to Richard Webber (1977W), our OD Committee member responsible for branches, whose idea this was and whose enthusiasm has helped the initiative grow. It is a lovely example of how a simple idea can bring ODs together, wherever they may be.

Here’s to next year, and to many more fires and shared stories.
