The annual Walker Cup golf day is taking place at Rondebosch Golf Club. Teams are full. For additional details download the documents below:
Venue: Rondebosch Golf Club
Day: 5th May 2023 (as it stands, the weather will be perfect – 19 degrees, clear skies)
Time: 12h00 shotgun start (be there by 11h00 to register, group photo, and time to get to your tee box – some are quite a long walk!)
Cost: R330 – this is for green fees and snacks at prize giving. From our field of 120 players, this will exactly cover what is due to the club.
If you could please pay to my bank account asap:
J D Smuts. Standard Bank. No. 07 095 232 9
Please make the reference WALKER-initial.surname (eg: WALKER-J.Smuts)
Please send PoP to: westbury@iafrica.com
Format: 4BB Stableford
White / Red tee boxes (your choice. Play according to your current HCI, but Playing h/cap on the day to be checked vs RGC Male Conversion Table on display at the club)
We will NOT be applying the SA handicapping rule of playing off 85% of h/caps for Betterball competitions.
Unless you have an official handicap over 18, your maximum handicap is 18
Carrying of sand-bags and pitch-repairers is compulsory. There are sand bins on most tee-boxes for re-filling bags. Please repair all divots and pitch-marks.
The greens were hollow-tined and top-dressed on 17 April, but with good rain since, are settling down well. The general condition of the course is very good.
Scorecards will be handed out at the check-in tables. Please all use the 1-18 hole cards for uniformity (don’t use the 11-18, 1-10 hole cards). Clearly fill in all relevant details and scores. In the past, many scorecards have been hardly legible and not fully completed. We reserve the right to discard any cards which are sub-standard!
Completed cards must be handed in to the officials manning the large scoreboard in the reception hallway of the club, asap after your completed rounds – ie: before showering or having a beer!
Being a shotgun start, there will be no stopping at the half-way house. Please eat beforehand or take something with you. At best, you can run in for a “grab & go”, but no sit-down meals.
Dress for the day:
For those who have OD shirts and caps from previous years, please wear them. For others, the OD Union will have a marketing table from where they will be selling navy blue OD shirts @ R450, hoodies @ R420 and caps @ R120. Payment may be done via c/card or SnapScan.
Prizes up for grabs:
Prize giving to start around 19h00
Top 10 & ties (number of prizes dependent)
4x Nearest the pin (2nd, 6th, 12th, 16th)
2x Longest Drives (18th, for white and red markers. We are no longer splitting them into age brackets)
Load-shedding
Like most places, the club also suffers from load-shedding, but there is a back-up generator, and we just hope that the timing does not impact on our enjoyment of the day.
I hope that it is a successful and enjoyable day. Let’s narrow that 2-win gap which Bosch has over the OD’s!
