Grade 12 Art Exhibition: ODU Sophy Gray Art Prize

Last Friday we had the pleasure of launching the grade 12 Art Exhibition at The Mitre. Thank you to those who attended. The night started off with patrons meandering between The Mitre and Woodlands, viewing the boys’ extraordinary work. Peter Hyslop (current art teacher) gave a presentation on the various art works and what they meant to him and the artists. We were then given the pleasure of having Marilyn Martin speak on the incredible talent that was on show at the exhibition and her appreciation for the first ever Old Diocesan Sophy Gray Art Prize as a tribute to the brilliant artist and architect that Sophy was.
The prizes were then awarded as follows:
1st Prize: Christopher Aubin – Self Portrait (Mixed-media drawing)
2nd Prize: Luca Powell – Self Portrait (Graphite drawing)
3rd Prize: Harry Wixley – The Story of Mr. Blue (Mixed-media drawing)
Commendation: Bulelani Ngqukuvana Self-Portrait (Oil paint on canvas)
Commendation: David Laubscher Reinterpretation of Wanderer above the Mist (Chalk pastel drawing)
Commendation: Nicholas Bowden Study after Rubens (Chalk pastel drawing)
Commendation: Thomas Mudge: Self Portrait (Graphite drawing)
The winners received a cash prize for their art work and in return the art work of the first prize winner will remain at The Mitre for future appreciation by ODs.
Congratulations to all the artists who participated in the exhibition.
