ODs David MacGregor (1979O), Bruce Jack (1987G) and WP van Zyl (1997K) are involved with The HeadStart Trust which promotes music as a means of community upliftment in the Cape Agulhas region. The program has had significant success with increased school attendance and individual development. Since the Covid pandemic, HeadStart Trust has focused on food relief assistance and collaborating with community leaders in upliftment efforts at the southern tip of Africa. More schools in towns like Napier, Bredasdorp, Elim and Struisbaai has since asked for the music program to be introduced at their institutions too. This has raised a need for musical instruments.

The HeadStart Trust would like to appeal to the OD network for donations of any previously loved (used) musical instruments to be used for teaching and developing musical skills in these rural communities. This music instrument drive will run for three months. For donations or collection arrangements, please contact HeadStart General manager WP van Zyl at +27 83 565 1374 or [email protected].
