ODs Around the World |
The above flyer was posted on the ODU Website inviting ODs to join this event initiated by Nic Searle of E.Canada.
The following rubric accompanied the flyer: "Canada is a big country with technically 6 time zones! ZOOM is a great way for a cross country catchup, and our fellow ODs from around the world can join us too! Its a free ranging conversation for about 30 minutes. We then have a Guest Speaker Kenneth Lukuko who will give a 15 minute presentation plus Q&A: His journey with Bishops began in 1983, when he made history as one of the first Black township learners to receive a scholarship to the College. Over the following three decades, Kenneth drew on his background in architecture and the social sciences to forge a multidisciplinary career, including work in truth and reconciliation."
Kenneth Lukuko (1988W) shared his story with several ODs connected to the call hosted by the E.Canada Branch Secretary Nic Searle (1987O). He shared the various projects he is involved in, in Langa Cape Town, for instance, the need for the upgrading of businesses such as the shopping malls. He explained the need for the resuscitation of the business centre in Gugulethu, for instance, giving other examples.
Among the participants on the call, were former ODU staff, Dr WP van Zyl (1997K) & Wilbur van Niekerk (1985K) and the current Executive Director Andy Wood (1977G) as well as the current Chair of the ODU Simon Koch (1977S) & David Leslie the Deputy Chair (1971F).

He began his call explaining his career at Bishops starting when Mr John Peake was the Principal. Kenneth's is a compelling story and the ODU congratulates Kenneth on his stellar professional career.
Not only was Kenneth a leading athlete at school, he was also a champion fencer ... 1987 captain of the School Team. The photo above is at the Peninsula Trials, where "K. Lukuko took 1st place in U-19 400m (52,6s)".
It was great being on the Zoom call and listening to Kenneth's great achievements.
