The sad passing of Peter Böttger (1956S).

Herbert Waldemar Peter Böttger, 7/9/38 - died in Swakopmund, Namibia on 23rd May 2025.

In 1952 after a three day train trip covered in soot, Peter arrived at Cape Town station, never having left home before. He was directed to the Rondebosch station and from there marched up to the school. Since the two existing boarding houses well full [White House was under construction] he and various other new boys were housed at a private boarding house just outside the school grounds. This was possibly the most unhappy times of his life, and he was caught at the station trying to make his way back to South West Africa. However, Peter persevered  and excelled in sport and academics. He was a member of the boxing team, played 1st Team tennis for three years, won the Under 19 hundred yards race, and obtained full colours for rugby. In his matric year he was a prefect in School House, and he obtained a 1st Class matric pass. This was followed at Stellenbosch University where he obtained a BCom LLB degree. Whilst completing his articles he was inducted into Round Table, where he became a very actine member, rising to become the National President, which included both countries – Sout Africa and South West Africa [now called Namibia].He was a very popular President as he had that rare gift of connecting effortless with people of all walks of life. After his mandatory retirement at the age of 40 years he started  the second Rotary Club in Windhoek. During this time he worked for the family business – the Swaco Group, of which he was Chairman for many years, Peter was also a long standing Director of  FNB Namibia, a founder member of the Save the Rhino Trust, and a Director of the Windhoek Teachers Training Collected, which morphed into the first university in Windhoek [UNAM].

Peter leaves his wife -Helen, daughters Susan, and Alexandra, son Stephen F90, and 4 grandchildren. He will be sorely missed by his family and many friends.

We send our deep condolences to them.

Requiescat in Pace.
