On Saturday evening 31 October 2026, starting at 6PM at Woodlands, the Matrics staged an exhibition of their art works, which was judged for the Sophy Gray OD Art Award.
The first place went to Oliver Howie, second, Anthony Lampe and third, to Matthew Arendse.
Dr Paul Murray the ODA congratulated the students on behal of the ODU.
Mr Husain Essop the senior art teacher addressed the students and their parents.
Twenty-five members of the Art Matric class participated.
The OD prize is divided up between the three winners.
Mr Essop screened a video clip reflecting the lives of the Grade 12s in the Sam Butler Art Room in the course of their studies, showing the wonderful energy and creativity of the students.
There were refreshments served.
The award is named after Sophy Gray an artist and companion and wife of the school's Founder Bishop Robert Gray.
Dr Desmond Martin documented the more than 50 churches built in South Africa during Robert Gray's bishopric, of which no less than 40 were designed by Sophy. His book "The Bishop's Churches" illustrated with his water-colours and line drawings depicts these churches. Close to home are St Paul's, Rondebosch & St Saviour's, Claremont. The latter is where Sophy and Robert Gray are buried.
