The Cape Town Branch hosted the inaugural OD Padel Championships, where 40 ODs — making up 20 competitive teams — enjoyed plenty of sunshine, banter and top-quality padel.
From the very first serve, it was clear this wasn’t just about bragging rights (although those were very much on the line). With ODs spanning generations — including the Hacking brothers, Doug (’72, Gray House) and Geoff (’75, Gray House) — the courts were buzzing with energy, laughter and proper teamwork.
Twenty teams battled it out across a brilliant day of competition, with rallies getting longer and voices getting louder as the intensity built. There were surprise upsets, moments of magic, and more than a few confident shouts of “I meant to do that!”
After a series of fiercely contested matches, the final came down to Jordan Flax & Justin Rowe Roberts versus Richard Thompson & Bruce Tissington — a showdown worthy of the occasion.
And it did not disappoint.
In a nail-biting tiebreaker, Jordan & Justin held their nerve to clinch the win and etch their names into history as the inaugural OD Padel Champions. A huge congratulations to them — and full credit to Richard & Bruce, who pushed them all the way.
More than just a tournament, the day was a fantastic celebration of connection, camaraderie and competitive spirit. Old friendships were rekindled, new ones were formed, and judging by the post-match chatter, this is only the beginning.
If this was the first chapter of OD Padel Day, we can’t wait to see what’s next.
Our thanks to Jordan Flax for his initiative and organisation in making this successful new OD event possible.
