National Women's Day

Today we celebrate all the courageous women of our nation

On this day we commemorate the courageous acts of those 20 000 women and all in civil society who supported them, who on 9 August 1956 - 66th years ago – marched on the Union Buildings to take up a stand against the tightening of control over the movement of black women in urban areas.

It is also the 66th year of the Woman’s Charter drawn up, to unite women against political, social, legal and economic injustices.
