The Old Diocesan Union (ODU) Committee is pleased to announce the appointment of Mr Andrew Wood (1977G) as the Executive Director of the ODU, effective 1 July 2025.

Andy is not only an Old Diocesan but also a former staff member at Bishops, having served at the College from 1990 to 1999. During his tenure, he made a significant and lasting impact as Head of Geography, Assistant Housemaster of Founders House, Head of Outdoor Education, Marketing Director, and Common Room Secretary. He was also a pioneering member of the College’s laptop programme and coached both the 2nd XI and U16 hockey teams, contributing to provincial selections and leading international tours.

Beyond Bishops, Andy has had an extensive and distinguished career in international education. With over 18 years of senior leadership experience across South Africa, the United Kingdom, the United Arab Emirates, and the Caribbean, he has been recognised for his innovation and global perspective. He has held leadership roles at institutions such as the forward-thinking "Think Global School" and is the founder of the acclaimed "Green School" in South Africa.

Andy is married and has two adult children, aged 29 and 31. He is an active member and team leader in Mountain Rescue and has designed and delivered numerous outdoor education and student leadership programmes.

In his new role, Andy will be based at The Mitre and will work closely with Dr Paul Murray (ODA), who continues to serve as Secretary of the Cape Town Branch. Together with a dedicated team comprising Jordan Flax and Steve Ciolli (Branch Chair), the Cape Town Branch will be hosting a number of exciting events and engagements in the months ahead.

We are confident that Andy’s experience, leadership, and deep connection to the Bishops community will serve the Union and its members with distinction.

The ODU warmly welcomes Andy to the role and looks forward to an exciting new chapter under his leadership.
