TWENTY YEARS AGO - THE BISHOPS v RONDEBOSCH DERBIES. 

RUGBY
The Feature Photograph at the top; Creagh Sudding (with the ball), Douglas Carruthers and Haldane Luscombe (C), - it was taken at the 1999 Bishops/Rondebosch derby, 20 years ago.  Bishops won the match 24-9.  It was the 141st encounter between the two schools.  On Saturday 17 August 2019, the two schools will take to the pitch to play against each other, this time, for the 197th time.  The venue is Rondebosch (see below for a link to the schedule).  
 
Twenty years ago - Tsepo Kokoali waits for the 'Bosch side to get the ball.  The match was played in the second half of the winter games season.   It was played at Rondebosch, in August 1999 and was televised live with Paul Dobson and Chick Henderson as the commentators.

HOCKEY
The Players for the Bishops First XI Hockey side were: F. du Plessis, A. Gie, J. Roux, T. Gaunt, A. John, N. Thomson, G. Eadie, S. Thomson,  W. Hall, J. McInroy, G. Olds, R. Kholer, D. Nel, D. Cowell and C. Olds (c).  Writing about the Bishops/Rondebosch encounter for the second half of the winter games season the coach said: 'I was so proud of the school's intelligent and enthusiastic support for this team at the derby against Rondebosch and hockey has a dignity, presence and proud tradition at Bishops now and this team can be proud of the part that they have played in the laying of that foundation.' 
 
Twenty years ago in 1999 - the First Hockey side in the second half of the winter season, being addressed by their coach Mr Stuart West.  

It was clearly a good season for the hockey side judging by the statistics for the year: 

Played, 27;
Won 22;
Drew 2;
Lost 3;
Goals For - 101;
Goals Against - 17. 

Bishops beat Rondebosch 4 - 0 in the 1991 encounter (second half).
