Peter Harry Murray 23.01.1940 – 17.04.2019
Peter started in Std 6 in Founders at Bishops. A promising athlete and Rugby player through the age groups receiving his 1st XV and Founders Rugby colours and captaining the 1st XV in 1958. After school he played for Eastern Province U19 and then for Eastern Province 1st XV. He played for EP for several years and then for North Eastern Cape.
He was a very good farmer and an excellent stockman with a great love for the Karoo. Peter farmed on the family farm ‘Oulton’ in Murraysburg, then on the family farm ‘Zuurfontein’ in Cradock. He later sold this farm and bought ‘Rygerspoort’ also in Cradock. He and his son Mike have built this into one of the most prestigious game farms in the country
Peter married Penny Rubidge on 13th April 1963 and celebrated their 56th Wedding Anniversary on their farm Rygerspoort. He is survived by his wife Penny, daughter Annlee and son Michael married to Helen, and their 2 children Izi and Max
The funeral was held on the farm under the Oak tree that Peter planted some 60 years ago. His younger brother Keith (F1963) conducted the funeral service with a huge crowd from all over the Karoo.
