UK Tour of the Western Front

20 Oct 2017
ODU Events
Nicky Bicket (1973F) reports from the October UK newsletter: “…October has been a busy month and it is probably fair to say the highlight has been - among many highlights - last week's OD Tour to the Western Front. 44 ODs from around the world and friends, with Mike Bosman (O, 1978 and Chairman of the College Council), Guy Pearson (Principal) and Paul Murray (Head if History and School Archivist) representing Bishops, visited the historical sites and memorials which make up the Western Front. Importantly, we dedicated a plaque (see above) to the memory of the 112 ODs who died in the Great War in the St George's Chapel in Ypres, a service which was conducted by Michael Bands (Bishops Chaplain from 1985-1992). That evening, Bishops and the ODU laid a wreath at the Menin Gate Memorial Ceremony. The trip, led by David Walsh, Chairman of the Old Tonbridgians, was informative and fun, and provided closure to the memories of our fallen ODs. Bishops was the last school to have a commemoration plaque in Ypres….”
