We only recently received this obituary from his family:

John Richard Cheetham passed away on Sunday 23rd April 2023 at the age of 75 years after a long period of illness.

After leaving Bishops he obtained a Bachelor of Commerce degree at Wits University followed a few years later by a MBA from UCT in Cape Town. Thereafter he became a successful businessman in the Insurance industry during his working career.

He was a talented cricketer and after school captained WP Nuffield, made the SA Nuffield team to play WP and regularly played for Transvaal B when at Wits University. He also played hockey as a goalkeeper for Southern Transvaal B on a number of occasions.

While doing his MBA in Cape Town he represented Western Province at cricket and made 124 against Transvaal over New Year at Newlands. A Celebration of Life was held for John on Wed 27th December 2023 and his family had a plaque placed on the Memorial Wall at Newlands Cricket ground where he also wished for his ashes to be spread over the playing field.

His sons shared with us that during his working life, he worked in  Life Insurance in the Banking arena and ended his Career as General Manager for ABSA Life Insurance for the Western Cape.

Our sincerest condolences to his wife Patricia, four children and five grandchildren.
