Perran Martin Howard Wood
21 January 1945 - 1 May 2025
We hereby inform ODs of the sad passing of Perran Wood (1962:O/F), who died after a three- year long battle with cancer.
Perran passed away on 1 May 2025 in his eightieth year.
Perran came to Bishops in 1959, matriculating in 1962. He served as a Lance-Corporal in the Cadet Corps, and excelled at Cross-Country. He won the Biology Prize in his Matric Year.
After Bishops, Perran completed his military service in the South African Navy. He then did a B.A. majoring in English at Stellenbosch University and a teacher’s diploma at UCT.
In 1967, he left South Africa for the UK, where he taught for seven years at several schools, ending up at Bedales.
After courses at the Victoria and Albert Museum in London, Perran joined Sotheby’s in 1975 as a glass expert. Starting in 1976, he headed up the new branch of Sotheby’s in Brussels, where he remained for several years before returning to London headquarters.
After his career with Sotheby’s, Perran retired to Kent, then Cornwall and finally Dorset.
He leaves a wife, three daughters and seven grandchildren.
