On Friday 08 August 2025 the College stood on the side of Campground Road in silent protest against Gender Based Violence.
Students were encouraged to hold up posters they themselves made for this.
The event was organised by the school to co-incide with National Women's Month when more than 20 000 women marched to the Union Buildings on 9 August 1956 in protest against the extension of Pass Laws to women.
On Friday 08 August, hundreds of cars driving on the road engaged in hooting as the themselves showed solidarity with the protest.
The proceedings for the event are as follows;
Friday 8 August: A 15–20-minute Silent Protest for GBV awareness-lining up on either side of Campground Rd between Sandown Rd and Park Rd robots
Each house to produce a few posters
07h45: Boys and house staff (tutors etc) meet in houses – roll call
07h50: Walk to Campground Road
SFWG: Proceed under subway and line up on Prep side of Campground Rd
OKBM - Line up on the College side of Campground Rd
07h55 - 08h15: Silent Protest / with posters (each house to make 2/3
meaningful posters)
08h20: Return to houses and ready for the start of lesson 1
OKBM – on the College side to leave first / followed by SFWG – who
walk under the subway back to campus
(Seb Stemmett has arranged for ADT guards on the route and informed Rondebosch police station who will have a presence at the time.)
On Monday 11 August all students will have follow-up discussions/ in their Tutor Periods with their Tutors about the event and topic.
