All the best to OD, Nikolai Smith (2011O), on being selected for the Italian National Cricket Team for an upcoming One Day Qualifying Tournament, hosted in Malaysia!
Nikolai is able to play for Italy due to his Itallian mother, who hails from Ottaviano.
Smith's journey in cricket began to take shape when he made his Twenty20 debut for the Northern Knights during the 2017 Inter-Provincial Trophy on 26 May 2017. Soon after, he marked his List A debut for the same team in the 2017 Inter-Provincial Cup on 29 May 2017, followed by his first-class debut in the 2017 Inter-Provincial Championship on 30 May 2017.
The year 2019 proved to be a significant one for Smith, as he was selected to represent Italy in the Cricket World Cup Challenge League B tournament held in Oman. It was during this tournament that he showcased his prowess, notably scoring his maiden century in List A cricket against Kenya.
Smith's determination and skill continued to earn him recognition, and in September 2021, he was named in Italy's Twenty20 International (T20I) squad for the Regional Final of the 2021 ICC Men's T20 World Cup Europe Qualifier tournament. He went on to make his T20I debut on 15 October 2021, playing against Denmark.
We wish Nikolai well as he continues to make his mark in the world of cricket.
