There was great excitement on Friday, 30 May at the Royal Cape Golf Club in Cape Town as 132 players arrived to play in this special event comprising of Bishops ODs and Rondebosch Boys' High School Ol Boys.

Begun in 1981, it was the 42nd annual Walker Cup golf match between the two schools' alumni.  The format was a Betterball Stableford.

OD Dean Cowling  (2001F) organised the event on behalf of the ODU.  The trophy is named after OD Michael Walker, who donated it, featuring an 'ancient' golf club mounted horizontally with the ties of the two schools' alumni.

At the time of taking to the course, Bishops had 19 wins versus RBHS's 22.  The gap narrowed after Friday's event, to 20 - 22.

The ODA Paul Murray and ODU Office Admin, Daniela Wakeford were there to support the players. ODC member Russell Adams (1987G) managed the event from the ODs.

Hats off to Dean Cowling for his professional management of the event.

Paul Murray writes: The camaraderie was something to behold, as ODs and their colleagues met up, with their traditional rival, Rondebosch Boys' High School.  Some of our Bishops boys came to Bishops from Rondebosch.  The connections are strong.  This was so clear on Friday.  The after-match event in the Clubhouse was special as all the players and staff gathered for a meal together, and witnessed the glorious prizegiving.

Congratulations to all who participated. may the 43rd once again be a very special event.
