My Octopus Teacher makes it onto the Oscars shortlist

Craig Foster, Kevin Smuts and Barry Donnelly were all part of the team behind this extraordinary story. The film will now go up against 14 documentaries which are on the shortlist for nominees.

The 93rd Oscars nominees are due to be released on March 15. 

While the film has already received much publicity from the OD Union (see here and here), the awards and recognition it has received is nothing short of amazing. Click here to view the full list of awards

Kevin (2004O) received the Best Music Score at the IDA Documentary Awards earlier this year. At this awards event, My Octopus Teacher went up against many of the documentaries who share the Oscar shortlist.

The film follows Craig Foster (1985F) and his unusual relationship with an octopus after he decided he would swim with this octopus every single day for a year, in so doing learning about not only the sea life around her but also learning things about himself. 

Barry Donelly (1988B), who has worked with Craig and Craig's brother Damon (1988K) for over 20 years, was in charge of the sound design for the film.
