ODU Strategy 2025

One of the proposals at the recent SGM was that the ODU adopt the values of Bishops. Those values, published on the School’s website, are:

  1. live the Christian faith in the Anglican tradition, humbly and courageously
  2. respect, nurture and value each person
  3.  inspire individuals to open their minds and hearts, and to reach their dreams
  4. offer a world-class, all-round education fully up to date with the best educational andtechnological advances
  5. address global issues including the sustainability of the environment both as part of the curriculum and as demonstrated in school operations
  6. embrace and celebrate diversity in the communities of our school and nation

Huge thanks to the over 400 ODs have already sent in their responses to the strategy questionnaire. One section of it deals with the question of ODU values, using the School's values as a baseline. Many have taken issue with the apparent contradiction between values 1 and 6 (above). To be clear, none has a problem with living “the Christian faith in the Anglican tradition” as a value for the School, but feel that it suggests/promotes a lack of inclusivity for ODs who might be neither Christian and/or Anglican.
And that some of the other values might not have much applicability to or be suitable for the ODU anyway.
What do you think?
