Anthony Lister (1973G)

Farewell to a flamboyant and colourful OD

We received the sad news of the sudden passing of Anthony Lister in Cape Town on 6 March 2023.

Anthony was a man of many facets.  He was a business man, teacher, thespian and devoted Anglican.  He worked for many years as a history teacher at SACS and was well known for his flamboyance and theatrical flair.

Dr Paul Murray sent us this tribute from Cambridge today (7 March 2023):

The Reverend Andrew Hammond the Chaplain at St John’s College Cambridge prayed for the soul of Anthony Storr Lister (1973G) at the service here in Cambridge, this morning.

Ant was a Lay Minister in the Anglican Church, who sadly passed away on 06 March 2023.

It was Ant who gave the most beautiful tribute to Terry (The Reverend Terry Wilke, former Chaplain at Bishops) at the special service led by His Grace The Most Reverend Dr Thabo Cecil Makgoba which was held at St George’s The Martyr, the Anglican Cathedral of SA in 2018.

Ant was a close colleague as we were both Moderators/Chief Examiners for the NSC History where he was much appreciated by the team of over 100 markers.

He stayed in touch with his school which he loved with the strongest possible passion; he constantly endowed our Museum and Archives with Memorabilia.

May his departed soul rest in peace.

We will post a full obituary once we have received more information from friends and family about Anthony which we will add to the information we are currently collating.
