The sad passing Richard Bluett (1966FH).

OBITUARY FOR RICHARD BLUETT (1948-2025)

It is with great sadness that my sister Jenny and I announce the passing of our brother, Richard Bluett, on Wednesday 3rd December 2025.

Richard began his school career at Bishops at Stanmore House in January 1958. In 1960 he moved to Bramley when the new prep. boarding houses were built, and at the end of 1962 he went to the College, where he joined Founders House. He completed his matriculation in 1966.

During his school years, Richard was a talented middle-distance runner. He competed in the Triangular Sports, representing Bishops in the 800-meter event (old 880). He also represented Bishops at the Western Province Schools Swimming Championships in 200m Breaststroke.  Apart from being a good athlete and swimmer, Richard also received Founders House rugby colours for being part of the winning team in the house rugby competition in 1965.

I would like to thank OD’s Donald Bett, Barrie Gibson, Mich Reid and Colin Taylor for showing compassion, kindness and generosity to Richard during his final years, when he was looked after in a care home in Hermanus. He was regularly visited and taken out for lunch. These were true friends indeed.

RIP Richard!

Robert Bluett (1968FH).
