Alan Graham Bramwell 9.10.1933 - 22.12.2025
Alan was born in Claremont on 9th October 1933. He first attended Western Province Preparatory School, later moving to Bishops where he very happily remained until obtaining his Matric in 1952.
He graduated from Wits University as an Electrical Engineer. He first worked for Eskom, followed by Otis Elevator Company, who sent him to East Africa in 1955. On the death of his father in 1958, Alan returned to South Africa, where he remained employed by Otis, eventually travelling to London in 1961, where he was employed by the Central Electricity Generating Board until late 1963, when he once again returned to Africa.
He joined the Federal Board and was an Engineer on the Kariba Power Scheme, which position he held for seven years. On relocating back to Cape Town he became the Managing Director of Dowson and Dobson, which position he held until his retirement at the age of 65 years.
For many years he was President of the Cape Town Chamber of Industries, together with President of the Technikon Council.
Alan's main hobby was Video photography to which he dedicated many hours at his Video Club, together with a love for Classical music and enjoyed playing the organ at home.
He was a keen Rotarian and was awarded two Paul Harris Fellowship awards.
He was involved with Meals on Wheels in Fish Hoek, and also with Leliebloem Childrens' Home. Alan travelled extensively throughout his life, both for business and after his retirement.
Alan is survived by his wife, Mary, and two children, Jacqueline and Duncan.
A Memorial Service was held on 7th January at St. Francis of Assisi Church in Simonstown.
The ODU and all its members send their heartfelt condolences to Mary, Jacqueline and Duncan.
He will be remembered as a true gentleman.
