Passing of friends |
John Michael Gibbs died peacefully at home in London on 1 October, surrounded by family, and returns to the Friends Meeting House in rural Herefordshire where he was active for many years. He will be missed by his wife Margaret, sons and daughter, Michael, Caroline, Dominic and Peter, and 10 grandchildren.
Born in Zimbabwe in 1929, then at Bishops in Cape Town, where his father was Dean of St George’s Cathedral, John went up to Oxford, returning to teach briefly at Bishops and UCT. There followed a spell in Zimbabwe, initially at Cyrene School and later as the first Principal of Ranche House College in Harare. The family moved to UK in 1963, where John taught in various schools and was involved in Adult Education and Art.
