Chris Mann (1965O) | 1948 - 2021

Chris passed away on Wednesday 10 March surrounded by his family in his home Makhanda, Eastern Cape. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family during this time.

Professor Chris Mann (1965O), who was based at Rhodes University’s Institute for the Study of the Englishes in Africa (ISEA) and founded Wordfest, died peacefully at his home in Makhanda last week, following a cancer diagnosis in 2020.

Prof Mann’s funeral service was held at the Cathedral of St Michael and St George.

Due to Chris's prominence in the public eye, there are copious amounts of tributes dedicated to the award-winning poet.
