At today's service L t R - Ben Hatty, Deputy Head of School, Paul Murray from the ODU, Fr Monwabisi Peter, school Chaplain, Mr Essa Rinquest, the Guest Speaker, Deen Rinquest, Grade 8 (Kidd House).
Today in the Memorial Chapel, a special service was held for Freedom Day, commemorating the first democratic elections held in South Africa on 27 April 1994. These were the first post-apartheid national elections to be held in South African where anyone could vote regardless of race. The Principal welcomed all present and addressed the school providing the context for this special service. This was followed by Franklin Sonn, Grade 12, in Mallett House, who gave further context for the commemoration. The Head of School Nic Allison introduced the guest speaker Mr Essa Rinquest who addressed the school, emphasizing the importance of the day for freedom, equality and justice for our nation. Father Monwabisi Peter concluded with Prayers, the Blessing and Dismissal. There were several hymns sung as well as the National Anthem.
