OD Sailing Captain Andrew Collins (1985O) reports: We had a very successful race on Friday afternoon. A few parents joined in along with the boys and coaches from the Bishops Sailing Club. The conditions were tough and a few people succumbed to sea sickness. The breeze was perfect at about 15 to 18 knots for most of the race, but the sea state was like a washing machine. This resulted in a hard upwind part of the race, but the downwind surfs put a smile on the faces of all the sailors. The boys did really well under the guidance of the OD sailors and there were lots of war stories afterwards.
For the record Spilhaus (Rijk Kuttel (1993F)) won with Tin Tin (Johnny Hutton-Squire (1967S)) in second and Ballyhoo Too (Chris Garratt (1993G)) in third. BODYTEC Flyer (Andrew Collins (1985O)) and Carousel (Steven Burnett (1998W)) retired when the wind switched off right at the end.
A big thank you to all the OD owners who made their boats and time available and to Charles Macdonald for helping to run the bridge. We look forward to next year’s event when we hope to get even more boats on the water and include more ODs.
