Thank you to Martin Versfeld for all the photos and this write up about the Golf Lion Cup friendly that was extra special last year:
Over the weekend of 11-12 November 2022 the 12th “Lion Cup”, contested annually between Founders and School House ODs, was held at Hermanus Golf Club.
This competitive fixture initially started as an annual contest between the 1977 ODs from these two houses, but has since grown to include ODs from other years and some youngsters, including original players’ sons.
This was also the 45th Reunion weekend for many of the 1977 ODs in the group, and a separate event was held in Hermanus to celebrate this occasion on the Friday and Saturday evenings.
Back to the golf! After a telling win by Founders in 2021, it was down to School House to try regain the infamous “Lion Cup” heavily contested between the two oldest houses at Bishops Diocesan College.
Day 1 – School came into the halfway mark with a convincing lead.
Day 2 – School held their lead and finished with a convincing over Founders.
For the 5th time, Top House managed to come out on Top at this year’s edition. The overall count now stands at School 5-6 Founders, with the 2013 event finishing in a tie. Manfred Oelz (1976S) was the surprise package this year, coming out as the “MVP” for the weekend, claiming all 4 of the available points over the two days. Well done, Manfred!
We look forward to another competitive but high-spirited event in 2023!
Pro fide et patria.
