The 40th Walker Cup Golf Day 2023

Thank you to John Smuts (1969S) for sending us the results of this year's Walker Cup Golf Day.  He had this to say:

Firstly, the good news – this annual clash was played in perfect, warm, windless, late Autumn weather, at the Rondebosch Golf Club, on a course in great condition, after some early winter rains.

The bad news is that we allowed Bosch to triumph for the first time since 2019, by 17 matches to 13, after initial early results were going in the OD’s favour. However, as always, it was a very enjoyable day, played with great rivalry, but close camaraderie.

This now leaves Bosch leading the overall standings after 40 events since 1982, by 21 ½ wins to the OD’s 18 ½. I was hoping that we would reduce the deficit to just one event.

Having taken over the organising of OD golf events from Brian de Kock seven years ago, I have decided to hand the baton over to somebody else, but that will probably be easier said than done! Any takers?!

Thank you too, to all the sponsors who were mostly ODs:

Note: The majority of these sponsors were OD’s, so we “beat” Bosch in the donor stakes!

We now need to prepare for the Old Quad Challenge at Westlake later in the year – probably during Sept (between old boys from Bishops, Rondebosch SACS & Wynberg).

Please get in touch if you would like to help us organise this event.  You can contact the ODU Office at [email protected].
