Dr Daniel Nel OD addresses Forum at The Mitre

Dr Daniel Nel addressed Forum on Tuesday 29 July 2025, at The Mitre.  Daniel matriculated from Mallett House in 2005.  He works at Groote Schuur where he is a Consultant Surgeon/Senior Lecturer in Medical education.  He holds medical degrees in Surgery & Health Education, in particular a PhD from UCT in Surgical Education.

The topic of his address was choosing Medicine as a career.  His talk was interactive drawing in the members, by encouraging related questions.  The meeting lasted a considerable amount of time given the apparent interest.

Refreshments were served and this was also a time where students could ask questions.

Present at the meeting was Mr Andy Wood, (1977G), the newly appointed Executive Officer of the ODU.

Dr Paul Murray the ODA is the President of Forum, having succeeded Mr Michael Fisher who established the society in 1976.  This work is part of what Paul does in the school, running  a number of societies all held at The Mitre.  In this way we are introducing the future ODs to their home.
