The most significant current development at Bishops Diocesan College is the planned construction of a second Astro Turf, marking a major expansion of the school's hockey facilities and long-term sporting capacity.

The Woodlands Astro Turf remains the central hockey venue and a defining feature of the campus sporting environment. Opened in 1999 for the school's 150th anniversary, the site, formerly known as the Graveyard Field, was previously used for cricket and other sports.

Today, it is recognised for both its high performance surface and its well known mountain backdrop.

A memorial bench beside the scoreboard, dedicated to the late Cassa Cassiem, remains an important feature of the precinct and a place of quiet reflection within the hockey community.

The new Astro Turf will be constructed on the Cemetery Field adjacent to the Pre-Preparatory School. Construction is scheduled to begin in late August 2026, immediately after the winter sports season, with completion targeted for the start of the second term in 2027, subject to progress on site.

The development is expected to ease pressure on the heavily used Woodlands facility and expand access across age groups.

The project also includes upgrades to the Woodlands Pavilion and surrounding changing rooms, strengthening the infrastructure that supports both training and match-day preparation.

At Lutgensvale, a new turf cricket wicket has already been installed. The field continues to operate as a multi-purpose space, hosting summer athletics, junior cricket, and winter rugby.

Under the guidance of head coach Ryan Julius, the hockey programme continues to play a central role in Bishops sport, with a strong focus on player development.

Overall, the development reflects a clear commitment to expanding capacity while maintaining the traditions and identity of Bishops sport.
